Ghanaian gospel artist, pastor, and life coach Sonnie Badu has ignited a heated debate online following his bold opinions on marriage, purpose, and leadership within relationships.
In a video shared on his official Instagram account on Saturday, February 14, he warned women to consider carefully the type of men they decide to marry, contending that a man lacking vision can greatly hinder a woman’s advancement in life.
He believes that marriage is profoundly spiritual, and when a woman decides to follow a man, spiritual authority flows through him to lead.
“If you find a husband with a vision, be careful how you follow. If you find a husband without a vision, pray that he discovers his vision,” he said.
“Because so long as you follow him, God will not hear you; God will hear him.”
Mr. Badu stated that when a man lacks direction and purpose, it impacts not just him but also the woman who partners her life with his. He emphasized that this situation can lead to stagnation, particularly when the woman’s aspirations and purpose are not included in the man’s outlook.
Drawing from his experience in marriage counselling, the singer revealed that he often advises men without clear purpose not to rush into marriage.
“I told the husband, sir, do you have a purpose and a vision? If you don’t have a purpose and a vision, don’t marry,” he said.
“Because your wife must live her dream in your purpose and your vision.”

He further stated that if a woman’s dreams are not aligned with a man’s vision, then the relationship is fundamentally flawed.
“If your wife and your dream are not in alignment with his purpose and vision, then you are not his wife. You’re somebody else’s,” he added.
“You’re not his rib. You met out of emotions.”

Mr Badu also shared his belief on leadership roles in marriage, asserting that while women play critical roles, spiritual leadership, according to him, is biblically assigned to men.
“So long as God remains God, a woman can never lead. It is biblical,” he said.
“But a woman can be the brain in the man to lead.”
