She won over Burna Boy, Davido (featuring Omah Lay), Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin, and Ayra Starr (featuring Wizkid)

Last night was another big one for South African artist Tyla, who won her second Best African Performance Grammy at the 2026 Grammy Awards. Tyla burst onto the scene in 2024 with Water, which helped her win her first Grammy in the same year, and now she won for Push 2 Start.
Other nominees in the category were Burna Boy, Davido (featuring Omah Lay), Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin, and Ayra Starr (featuring Wizkid)
Currently, “Push 2Start” has over 444 million Spotify plays and over 136 million YouTube views, indicating her global success and development.
Although we’re happy to see another South African succeed on the global scene, Tyla’s inability to accept her prize and give a speech during the broadcast suggests that Africa was somewhat neglected during the awards ceremony.
Rather, Tyla was forced to accept her prize and give a speech during a red carpet event (linked below). This is not a good image for the broadcast organizers, especially considering how important the African continent has been to the music industry in recent years.
Hopefully, that changes next year, as the continent’s importance to music as a whole should not be overlooked.
