Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has hit back at critics following backlash over his conduct involving Jomoro Member of Parliament Dorcas Affo‑Toffey during his performance at NkrumahFest 2026.
The artiste, in a video responding to the backlash, defended his actions and accused some Ghanaians of focusing on negativity instead of appreciating the efforts of creatives.
The controversy began after a video captured Affo‑Toffey approaching him on stage mid‑performance, sparking debate online.
While some described his reaction as disrespectful, Shatta Wale insisted he was simply protecting his craft, likening the stage to his workplace.

In response, Shatta Wale insisted that he was simply protecting his craft and likened the stage to his workplace, arguing that professionals should be allowed to work without interruptions.
The “On God” hitmaker also criticised media platforms including UTV, Peace FM and Hitz FM, claiming that discussions from these platforms contributed to the negative conversations surrounding the incident.
He further urged Ghanaians to adopt a more positive mindset, arguing that negativity affects personal growth and national development.
“In this life, when you think positive, only positive things will come to you. When you think negative, the negative things will come to you,” he said.
The dancehall artiste also addressed comments involving his “mother”, explaining that the Jomoro MP Dorcas Affo-Toffey is someone whom he considers a mother figure and someone who has supported him.
He also clarified that Fantana, the Ghanaian musician and daughter of the MP, is like a younger sister to him.
“My mother has taken care of me for years. That is my real mum,” he stressed.
Shatta Wale maintained that he would not allow criticism to stop him from pursuing his career, insisting that he would continue doing things his own way.
“I won’t give up. I won’t stop for you. You are not the people who will stop me,” he said.
