Award-winning Ghanaian rapper and producer EL has cautioned artists against signing record label deals without sufficient research and professional guidance.
The artist called signing record deals without much consideration “savage” in an interview on Accra-based Hitz FM on Tuesday. He also strongly advised gifted musicians to avoid making similar mistakes.
He claimed that his personal record contract experience forced him to temporarily step away from music while he fought to escape a challenging situation.
“I would advise against blindly signing a record deal,” he stated.
According to my experience, I had to detangle myself and get out of a scenario that made me quiet for a time. After signing a few documents, I realized that I had taken a bigger step than I had initially anticipated, EL said.
EL underlined that artists may face serious problems as a result of inadequate documentation and representation.
Before signing any agreement, he emphasized the significance of having legal advice, correct paperwork, and a thorough grasp of what is being given.
