Media personality Cynthia Tima Yeboah, popularly known as Tima Kumkum, has opened up about her weight-loss journey, admitting that she was not proud of her body before intentionally taking steps to lose weight.
According to the media personality, being chubby affected how she felt about her appearance and also influenced how some people perceived the way she dressed.
She made the remarks in an interview with media personality Nana Romeo, where she addressed criticism that she did not know how to dress properly.
Tima Kumkum explained that although some of the clothes she wore were nice, her body at the time made her feel that the outfits did not look as good as they should.
“When I was chubby, most of my clothes didn’t fit me. The dress was nice, but the body wasn’t nice. So, if I put on the dress, you wouldn’t see the niceness. I saw some comments that broke me down. But now that I have lost weight, my confidence is so high. If I were the dress, they would look good on me. That is why I am happy I have lost weight,” she said.

She admitted that at a point, she was not proud of her body and would often look at herself in the mirror and compare her current appearance to how she looked when she was younger.
According to her, the changes in her body made her realise that she needed to take deliberate steps to lose weight, which she eventually did.
“At that time, I wasn’t proud of my body, I won’t lie. I was going through so much postpartum depression. I could look at myself in the mirror and say, ‘This body wasn’t looking good. I had to do something to lose weight.’ I could post a picture and someone would say, ‘I don’t know how to dress,’” she said.
The media personality also noted that the same platform where people once criticised her for her appearance has now become a place where others praise her transformation.
“The same place you stood for people to criticise you is the same place people will stand to praise you, and that’s what is happening in my life,” she said.
Tima Kumkum further disclosed that her decision to lose weight was not only influenced by her appearance but also by health concerns.
She explained that health practitioners had cautioned her about her high cholesterol level and advised her to lose weight to reduce the risk of developing other health complications.
She also recalled experiencing various health challenges while she was chubby, including dizziness in the mornings and waist pains, which she initially did not understand.
“My cholesterol level was very high. When I went to the hospital, the doctors gave me an ultimatum: I had to lose weight, or I could face about 10 different health issues if I didn’t. And who wants to die early? So, I decided I had to lose the weight,” she said.
